Step 1: Draw the basic body shapes
- Start with two circles for the body. A large one in the middle of your page for the chest and shoulders, and a slightly smaller one behind it for the hips.
- Draw another, smaller circle above and in front of the chest for the head. The distance will determine the neck's length.
- Sketch curved lines to connect the circles, forming the neck and the torso.
Step 2: Create the snout and jaw
- On the head circle, draw a rounded trapezoid or square shape to create the snout.
- Draw a curved line from the snout back toward the head to create the mouth. Add a line for the lower jaw.
Step 3: Add the legs
- Draw simple, straight guidelines for the legs. Position a pair of lines for the front legs extending from the chest circle and a pair for the back legs from the hip circle.
- Draw rounded, tube-like shapes around these guidelines to add bulk and definition to the legs.
- At the end of each leg, add a few pointed shapes for the toes and claws.
Step 4: Draw the wings
- Start the base of the wing at the top of the largest body circle.
- Draw two large, curved lines to form the outline of the wing's bony structure. It should resemble a bat's wing.
- Connect the curves with wavy lines to create the webbing of the wing. You can draw a smaller, second wing peeking out from behind the first.
Step 5: Draw the tail
- Start a long, curved line from the back of the body to form the tail.
- Add a second line that follows the same curve, tapering it so that the tail ends in a point.
Step 6: Refine the head and add details
- Add details to the head, such as circular eyes with slit or round pupils.
- Draw two curved horns coming off the back of the head.
- Add smaller spikes down the back of the neck.
- Give the mouth some jagged teeth and the nostrils two small dots or lines.
Step 7: Add texture and finish the drawing
- Erase the initial pencil guidelines and circles.
- Add texture to your dragon, such as bumpy scales, by drawing small curved or wavy lines on the body and head.
- You can also add a row of larger spikes down the dragon's back and tail.
- Finally, trace over your pencil lines with a darker pencil, pen, or marker to make the drawing stand out.
